ABOUT

The Sharon Math and Science Tournament is a STEM-based competition for middle school students in the Greater Boston and New England area, organized and conducted by the SMST club at Sharon High School.
From our own experiences, STEM competitions often focus on either math or science, are rigid, and are geared more towards high schoolers. Therefore, we have dedicated ourselves to creating the first fun-filled, hands-on, middle school-level STEM competition in our region.
We believe that mathematics and science are complementary, and SMST is an excellent setting and opportunity for young minds interested in math and science to put themselves out there, think creatively, and prepare for high school.

Through individual and team tests, design challenges, and lab demonstrations that involve both math and science, we challenge middle schoolers to push their intellectual limits and explore the STEM world that surrounds them every day.

Indumathi Prakash, graduate of Harvard University, founded SMST in 2015 as a high school freshman. She led the Sharon Math and Science Tournament for the following four years as Director, aiming to foster an interest in STEM fields for middle school students: the next generation. Throughout this time, she built a club of 40+ high school students to help contribute questions and design challenges, as well as to organize the tournament.
